Beginner Magic

This is David Blaine's single favorite effect. The actual deal-closer David used for most of his professional career. It helped him close the deal on his first Network T.V. special: Street Magic.

Effect

You show someone a batch of twenty cards... all different.

You give her ten of the cards to hold.

You now have her just think of one of the remaining ten cards. She never says a word. No one except her knows what card she's thinking of.

These ten cards are counted again. Strangely... there are now only nine. The one card she'd been thinking of has vanished! She's still only thinking of her card; it's never been named out loud!

She counts the other ten cards she's been holding; ten cards you haven't touched since the beginning. But now she has eleven cards! The strange traveler has arrived... her thought-of card is now staring her in the face!

Strange Travelers is a streamlined version of a classic effect that was Nate Lepzig's favorite over 75 years ago. Other variations have come and gone. David re-discovered this hidden gem, and the rest is history.

And the really good news: Blaine's favorite effect is extremely easy to do.

Your audience won`t believe when you slice a borrowed credit card in half! The cut edge of the credit card looks like a realistic, raw cut mark made by a saw. The card's owner may skip a heartbeat! Of course, you magically restore the credit card before returning it. You will enjoy performing this visually shocking magic illusion to your audiences.

(You may also use other cards when performing this trick, provided that they are the same size as a credit card.)

This unbelievable trick, accomplished by a surprising new principle, has baffled magicians around the world. You can magically alter drawings on the blackboard despite the fact that the board was signed by a spectator - an apparently impossible condition that proves no switches were made. Additional handlings and detailed presentations are included.

The magician takes a pen and sticks it through the Invisible Zone case. When the case is opened the center of the pen is totally invisible even though the pen is moved back and forth! This one looks totally impossible.

The magician displays three sticks, each of which contains eight random designs. After turning his back, the magician instructs the spectator to select any one of those designs, and to stare at it intently, to lock it into his mind. The spectator mixes the three sticks so that there is no chance that anyone can discover which design he has chosen. However, by simply passing his hand over the sticks, the magician can immediately reveal the mentally-selected design.

Design divinations are a popular form of mentalism, and this prop enables you to read minds with ease. You can further increase the mystery by offering a fortune-telling twist as you reveal the thought-of design, such as: "I sense that your love life will reach new peaks in the coming month. You are concerned with affairs of the heart. For this reason, you must have chosen the 'heart'." The method in which you learn the spectator's thought is easy, yet completely baffling. It is based on a brand new, very subtle and clever system that you can learn right away.

The fronts and backs of four Jacks are slowly shown to the audience and given to a spectator to hold. The spectator is asked to "think of any Jack." A moment later, the magician removes the named Jack from his pocket! Then the four cards held by the spectator are revealed to be the FOUR ACES! No sleight-of-hand. The extremely devious gimmicks do all the work for you! (And yes, the spectator can name ANY Jack!)

LETHAL POKER
A pack of cards is spread face down and a spectator asked to touch any four cards. Impossibly, the four cards turn out to be the four Jacks! Commenting that, "four Jacks is a great poker hand, but they could still be beat by four Queens and even four Kings," the magician changes the four cards into an even stronger poker hand, THE FOUR ACES!

A.C.E.S
The four Jacks are introduced and the magician says they are "marked." The magician draws attention to the fact that there is a different letter written on the back of each of the Jacks including a 'C,' an 'A,' an 'S', and an 'E.' The four cards are laid face down on the table in a row so they spell the word 'CASE.' The magician then rearranges the cards so they spell 'ACES' and then turns over the four cards to reveal that all four Jacks have impossibly changed into THE FOUR ACES! (And again, the backs and fronts of all the cards are completely shown!)

RAINBOW JACKS
A three climax mindblower! First, four cards are chosen at random from a red pack and the four cards turn out to be the four Jacks! Second, the backs of the Jacks are mysteriously changed into FOUR DIFFERENT COLORS! And third, the Jacks are changed into the Aces! Supremely magical.

4 X IMPOSSIBLE

Effect: The magician introduces an interesting deck of playing cards–one with 52 different back designs. Two of these cards are placed face up on the table, let’s say the jack of hearts and the seven of clubs each deck is different. The spectator now takes the deck and deals the cards into a face-down pile on the table, stopping anywhere he likes. The spectator has an absolutely free choice of where to stop the deal. A spectator is given an invisible deck to shuffle. They are then asked to remove one card, look at it (in their imagination), reverse the card and then replace into the deck. The spectator gives the deck back to the magician, who returns it to their pocket. The magician then removes the deck from the pocket, which is now visible, asks the spectator to name the card they looked at.
