If you don't need a gimmick; why bother? This has always been a philosophy of Ned's magic. Here are several great classic tricks you can now perform impromptu. Sleight of hand magic is perhaps the most technically demanding of all areas of performance magic, and perhaps the most rewarding. One must have both drive and diligence to perform sleight of hand magic. I meet many magicians who have the desire to be a great manipulator, but they work on their excuses more than on their technique....

“My hands are too small,” or “My hands don’t work as well as they used to,” or, “I don’t have the time to practice manipulation as much as I would like to.”

I have offered up this material for the magician who has only limited skill or time to practice. Often, complicated sleight of hand routines take many months or years of practice before you can experience the results. These routines and effects are designed with minimum practice involved, and almost immediate results. Routines like these do take some practice, but will give you more rewards than blisters, more “wows” than “ouches.” The manipulation exercises and effects are here to help you build confidence, and perhaps will trick you into becoming a sleight of hand artist.

The classic "Snowstorm in China" effect is one of the most visually appealing effects possible. The performer shows his hands empty, then displays a sheet of tissue paper and tears it into strips. He bundles the strips together and places them into a tumbler which is then filled with water.

The performer then begins pouring the water out of the tumbler with one hand and waving a fan with the other. Immediately the soggy ball of paper turns into a beautiful snowstorm of white flakes of paper!

The magician asks a spectator to cut three 4-foot lengths of rope from an ordinary hank of rope. Two audience volunteers handle the ropes several times, thus assuring the audience that the three ropes ae just what they appear to be.Yes, unmistakably ordinary, separate, and of equal length. The magician then performs some initial basic magic with the three ropes.
Suddenly the three ropes become transformed to three unequal ropes. The magician then explains that he only made the ropes appear to be unequal. He lets the audience in on the simple 'secret' (don't worry, no real secrets are actually exposed)
No sooner does the audience finish chuckling at how easily it had been deceived, than the ropes are shown to be actually unequal. Yes, unmistakably separate and unequal.
Just as the audience gets over this shock, the three ropes suddenly become equal once again. Yes, unmistakably separate and equal. The routine has come full circle, and after performing some more magic with the same three ropes, the magician hands them out as souvenirs for examination.

The Inexaustible Sponge by Gaetan Bloom and Kevin James At anytime during your performance, you wipe your forehead with a sponge and squeeze it over a bucket, producing large amounts of water from the sponge!
