Effect: A card is selected from a borrowed deck, returned and the cards are shuffled. A rubber band is stretched around the deck, and the band visibly melts away! One card then emerges from the deck, it's the selected card with the rubber band around it!

There is no preparation, no gimmicks and no forces.

The effects in this book have been designed form the inside out. In each case, Christopher began with some concept drawn from nature or metaphysics that he was strongly attached to. Ten people are asked to think of a past president. Each person must think of a different president. To facilitate this, a small pad of paper passed among the participants. Checking to make certain that their chosen president has not been listed, each person writes the name that they have in mind. If the name is already on the list, the participant has to select a different name.

When all ten people have chosen a name, a new person looks over the list and circles one name. The written list is no longer needed so one of the spectators removes the sheet and folds it into quarters. The pad is tossed aside. The mentalist tears the folded paper and throws it away; after all, it was needed only to make certain that no names were duplicated.

No Smoking #1 and #2 - Two handlings for breaking a cigarette in half and restoring it. Light My Fire - The magician borrows a pack of cigarettes, and after a series of vanishes and reappearances makes everything disappear.

The lights in the theatre darken. Strange music begins to fill the air as fog rolls on to the stage. The magician picks up a thin board. An assistant holding an eerie green work light walks on stage.

The magician places the board in front of his body. The assistant walks behind the magician and raises the light. He lowers the light behind the magician and begins to push.

The green light begins to emerge from the center of the magician's chest.

The assistant’s hand emerges holding the light. He pushes the light to one side passing through the magician’s body as if it were made of fog. The magician remains motionless.
