This is Gold Cups Winner Steve Bedwell's favorite stand up magic routine! A lady from the audience is invited on stage to observe the magician as he cuts a length of rope in half and then restores it. The effect is repeated several times to the increasing bewilderment of the assisting spectator. However, unknown to the spectator, the rest of the audience sees the magician secretly transfer short pieces of rope into and out of play in Balls Over The Head fashion. The trick builds into a crescendo of craziness culminating in a hilarious visual restoration of the rope!

Effect: A card is selected from a borrowed deck, returned and the cards are shuffled. A rubber band is stretched around the deck, and the band visibly melts away! One card then emerges from the deck, it's the selected card with the rubber band around it!

There is no preparation, no gimmicks and no forces.

The effects in this book have been designed form the inside out. In each case, Christopher began with some concept drawn from nature or metaphysics that he was strongly attached to. Then, like a magnet invisibly organizing iron filings, the concept acted as a nucleus around which technique, method, and devices gathered to produce the form of the effect.

In this manuscript, Christopher applied this empirical perspective to the classic effects of magic and found that many of them expressed principles found in nature or archetypal ideas from the human imagination. The lights in the theatre darken. Strange music begins to fill the air as fog rolls on to the stage. The magician picks up a thin board. An assistant holding an eerie green work light walks on stage.

The magician places the board in front of his body. The assistant walks behind the magician and raises the light. He lowers the light behind the magician and begins to push.

The green light begins to emerge from the center of the magician's chest.
